Re: Faramir?

I seem to recall that his first interaction with Frodo, Sam and Gollum (in the movie) made me think, "oh come on, ease up!" But I don't remember the details and I certainly didn't think he carried on being dickish as the movie went on.

Faramir threatened to kill Gollum (for no reason) if Frodo didn't admit they were together, then had him captured, tied up, and tossed around (again, for no reason), leaving Gollum convinced Frodo had betrayed him. Basically the only truly dickish thing he did, but still pretty bad considering how it sent Gollum off the deep end after he fought so hard against the voices in his head.

AYRT--right! I'd forgotten the details but I remembered being upset by it.

If you think from Faramir's point of view, he wasn't being unreasonable. Frodo and Sam were being extremely cagey about why they were there, and it was obvious they were lying about Gollum. Basically they were behaving like very badly trained spies.
