Early Christmas presents thread

(Anonymous) 2014-12-25 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
It is 1:00 AM in continental Western Europe and I already got my presents.

My mom bought me Wizard's first rule because she remembered I liked fantasy. However I remember how disliked this is and how it's the fantasy series in which chickens are evil incarnate or some shit, so I don't want to read it. (I don't want to read period these days but that's another story). I feel bad because I didn't say I wanted anything and they just wanted me to have something under the Christmas tree :(.

:(

That sucks, anon, I'm sorry. Holidays can be so frustrating when stuff like that happens.

That said the Goodkind series is, yeah, very bad.

Just thank them. You don't have to read it. Or if you think they're going to ask you about it later, just read a few chapters?

I got money. Just what I wanted. No. I am not being sarcastic. It's exactly what I wanted.

I will get to post in this thread in approximately three and a half hours. Travelling up to see my brother and his wife (and my nephew!) for Christmas, plus other half is working that day anyway. So we'll be doing the present thing tonight.

owls are cute :)

I still think stuffed animals are the best present. totally pointless, so maybe you wouldn't buy it for yourself, but sooo cute and cuddly. also you can throw them at somebody or mush them to their faces. family fun!

It's midday Christmas here but so far I got:
Kaiju statue eating garden gnomes for my garden
Stationary
Socks
A ceramic plate for cooking pizza in oven
A slow cooker
A slow cooker cook book
Free food

:D best haul yet

I'm sorry you got a book you didn't like. Can you go to a charity store and see if you can't trade it for a different book? Any local book swaps?

wow, I wanted to comment on the kajiu statue alone, but all of these are cool by themselves. esp the socks.

I fucking love socks. These ones have ridiculous dots on them!

Socks are one of the best gifts. Most years I get at least one pair. Right now I'm wearing a very fuzzy pair my sister got for me a few years ago - they're awesome to wear around the house.

Well Chanukah is over now, so I'm pretty much done except for family not present/2 Secret Santas, resolving tomorrow and NYE.

I got COPIC markers, books, and Lords of Waterdeep. I gonna domesticate so many owlbears.

I got the same thing I always get: new PJs and a chocolate orange. Tho last year I got a knockoff chocolate orange. I was thoroughly unimpressed.

(We don't do the big gift-giving blowout thing anymore. Partly because there are no kids in the house, and partly because we're broker than broke LOL.)

Wizard's First Rule is one of the good books in the series. Its all okay for the first three books, then after that is when the batshit insanity kicks in.

A card from my aunt and uncle saying that they preordered the two unreleased Ursual Vernon books on my Amazon wishlist.

Ooo, I've heard some bad things about The Sword of Truth books too, but haven't actually read them myself. I have however watched Legend of the Seeker (which is based, probably loosely, on the books) and love it. Er, I heard the first one is pretty good? Maybe give it a try if you ever get bored. Or just thank your mom and don't read it, haha. I've been given a few books I did that with. (One was a Christian fantasy series, another was a romance thing that I honestly tried, but hated.)

It isn't Christmas yet here, but my family didn't exactly go all out this year so I doubt I'm going to be getting much. (I did however buy myself a new computer about...idk, two or so months ago, so I still kind of count that as a present to myself.)

A friend is sending me a Wheatley Laboratories Messenger Bag so I'm excited to get that!

oooh, what kind of computer did you get?

Re: Early Christmas presents thread

An Asus. I've had Sony, Dell, HP, Apple, etc and don't really know if the brand matters that much, so I just bought something that I knew should run Dragon Age: Inquisition on recommended smoothly. It does so I am pleased with my purchase. (It's so fast, omg, and I have more ram and memory than I should ever need, lol.)

That's awesome. I upgraded about a year ago from 4G ram to 6G and the difference is really amazing. (I take it this is a laptop?)

Re: Early Christmas presents thread

[personal profile] elaminator 2014-12-25 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Actually no, it's a desktop. IIRC my old computer had 8G of ram and this one has 13. (Which is ridiculous I know, but I didn't even upgrade the ram; it came like that.)

My old desktop was quite old in computer years though (we're talking five, maybe six years). It ran fine to browse the web and play older games, but it was getting outdated.

Ram makes such a big difference, it's true! I've never made such a big leap before, but even two gigs is going to be noticeable.

I tend to have a revolving door of interests and hobbies so when people get me something secret for Christmas it's inevitably something I don't like or no longer have an interest in, but I feel so bad because I know they must be listening to what I talk about and they tried their best... :(

Re: Early Christmas presents thread

The Goodkind series is pretty terrible, but as I recall, the first book was probably the best out of the lot, so maybe you can still salvage a read?

I got red onesie jammies with a buttflap that say 'Bear Bum' and it has a picture of a bear on it!! XD And a David's Tea giftcard and some awesome stockings from my aunt (red/black striped and black/green plaid~).

Plus the Holiday Collectors Edition Barbie because I collect them. :D

We're going to my brother's for breakfast/brunch/etc tomorrow so my parents and I opened gifts tonight so that we didn't have to get up even earlier. XD It was weird opening gifts Christmas Eve.
