I hope it's over, because of the holidays and my sister's husband's birthday is the 27th. They just have the worst timing for their drama bombings- the wedding/day after the wedding, my niece's first birthday, the parents-in-laws' 40th anniversary cruise, and now Christmas eve.

My family is Jewish and his family is non-denominational Christian (and not particularly religious). In fact, this even has been kind of a factor in their arguments, where it really seems more that the brother is just ignorant and not anti-Semitic, but it was still shitty. Sister, to us: "Guess what, my lovely non-Jewish husband just made us some really yummy latkes!"

All of this is just hard because they all live and work in NorCal and we are in SoCal. So I never see them, everything's second-hand, and it's just such a mess. ;___;

NAYRT - Have you ever tried visiting them on a non-holiday, or asking them to do so? Or is that not an option? :/ Sounds like it sucks, though. I do hope your sister's husband isn't like his family. (Though you'd wonder why he would put up with that. Normally I'm all for putting family before romance, but if my family treated my husband and his family like that, they'd have to answer to me.)

With the exception of the wedding, which was in SoCal where they met, none of this has occurred while we were actually there with them. Obviously we are terrible people because we aren't driving 300 miles to see them every weekend. :( We would have been there for the birthday, but my dad was having a serious health issue and couldn't travel, not like that matters at all! *eyeroll*

The husband is not at all like his family, he is extremely laid-back and adaptable. The thing is, I think his family has some weird expectations of him based on what he was like as a teen (gothy and way more into media) and they think my sister has ~changed~ him; when really he's just grown up and matured like a normal person and they (especially his brother) haven't.

The other problem is that if the husband tells his mom anything about his feelings or how he wishes things were, it's immediately going to be distorted by being passed from the mother, to the brother's wife, to the brother. So he doesn't even have support there. :( I know he'd just like everybody to be friends.
