I suspect you're right. Kids media (and anime and manga in particular, especially older titles) are full of this kind of thing. To a 10 or 12 year old who probably feels they're totally mature and understand True Love, the relationship was probably just sweet and romantic.

i might be inclined to agree if it was written by a twelve year old, but CLAMP is made up of adults

So, when one becomes an adult, one is required to forget that overwhelming pubescent crushes existed, or how they felt? Or is the sin in making a story to appeal to girls in the grip of such a crush? I'm not sure what part you're upset by.

Because they wrote that crush and turned it into 'she fucking marries him at age ten'. And considering how often Shoujo has thirteen/fourteen year olds getting knocked up by adults being twu wuv...yeah. It's insanely fucked up.

I remember in Kodocha that Sana's bio-mother had gotten pregnant at thirteen by her ADULT UNCLE. And she left the baby on the bench because ~omg he was such a nice man I couldn't burden him with this baby~. No honey, he's not "nice". He took advantage of you for sexual gratification. And it's played off as cute. Jesus christ

She doesn't marry him at age ten? Where the hell are you getting that?

nayrt

Think anon misunderstood the whole "promise ring" part and took it as a straight up marriage proposal.

Totally late to the party, but I'm watching Log Horizon right now. I just got to a part where a middle schooler gets a crush on a grown man, and that's portrayed believably from her perspective. From his perspective . . . well, she's a middle schooler, and he's a grown man. He doesn't want to hurt her feelings, but he's definitely not into her in that way. I feel like that's a lot more watchable than an adult actually getting with a little kid.
