I completely agree. I love smut as much as anyone else, but in a longer, plotty fic, it just gets really repetitive and boring.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Any kind of erotic fiction without any sexual tension gets boring fast. If there's sex every chapter you can't build up the tension, so you have to rely on narrative tension... and most of these kinds of stories don't have all that great a plot.

I only find it annoying in longer fics. It kills the sexual tension if the scenes are too regular, and I start to get the feeling the author has some kind of sex scene quota.

Up to about 5 chapters I'm fine with lots of constant sex. In fact I like it.

It's when a fic is really plotty and has a lot of really violent and tense action going on. It's hard to believe any characters can maintain their constant permaboners under such stress. In the short term, I imagine it works through adrenaline. Over a period of months, unless there's some sort of extenuating circumstances, it's much less believable.
