Draw from life and study the people who inspire you, to see what works and what doesn't. Look for tutorials on EVERYTHING, not just those. I draw in a manga inspired style, but one of my greatest influences was a tutorial series called "Manga to realistic", and another is El Goonish Shive. (JA's tutorials at sailorenergy.net are good too!).
google "figure gesture drawing".
and read these books in the bookshop before buying and only buy if you think they actually will be useful (hint, likely not, but some art books are gems).
edit: and at least one of the authors in the image is embarrased the book was published. She was 16 at the time.
