Well the good thing about the TF universe is that it's spread over multiple forms of media, and has many different continuities you can choose from, and that you don't need to know what's going on in X comic subseries to know what's happening in Y season of the latest cartoon. You're not obligated to like it all.

FWIW, I haven't read that particular comic series either--actually, the only TF comic I've read is Reign of Starscream--and I haven't even gone on the wiki to see what it's about. I have absolutely no idea what's going on in them and that lack has zero bearing on my enjoyment of the parts of the fandom I prefer.

Why in the world would you want to keep up with something you're not into?

I get the impression that it's a love it or hate it series, since it reads more melodramatic (or more character driven than plot? Idk) than the other ongoings (or older books for that matter).

I think a lot of people do use wikis to catch up with comics in general though. Not the same as reading, but it gets you up to speed if especially if you have no interest in reading every single thing to know what's going on in another.

I'm not sure I understand what the actual secret is. People tried to convince you to read it, so I guess people know you don't read it... or do you keep up on tfwiki so you can fake you're reading it with those people? Otherwise, why would you waste time keeping up? I am confused.

The Moar You Know

To anyone who wonders why this is a thing and a secret:

A few years ago they soft-rebooted the Transformers G1 mythos in a post-War Cyberton (no more Autobots and Decepticon rivalries) with 2 comic lines (different writers, same universe, vague intersections along the way)

Robots In Disguise, always intended to be the MAIN series (with Optimus Prime and Co) was business as usual. More Than Meets The Eye was dramatic and experimental, featuring rare or unknown characters from a newish writer who had previously been known as a TF fanficer.

The latter, unsurprisingly, became a hit, buoyed mostly via its strong female fan following due to a strong emphasis on relationships, gender and social issues. It's very difficult to be in the Transformers comics fandom these days and not be at least aware of what MTMTE is doing, doubly difficult if the comic isn't quite to one's taste. This is what OP is talking about.
