Re: Dealing with fandom loneliness?

(Anonymous) 2014-12-28 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish I had advice for you, but fwiw I understand; that feeling of abandonment when a friend moves onto something new and shiny at the expense of the thing you shared is pretty awful.

I guess all I can suggest is to stay enthused about the things you love and be open to engaging with other people about them even if their interest seems more casual than yours. Who knows, they may find your enthusiasm for your fandom/OTP pretty infectious and it might spawn more discussion etc. I know that if someone started talking to me about one of my smaller fandoms, then I'd love having an outlet to talk about it.

Organizing fandom-related events is also something that gets recced when it comes to generating interest, so maybe consider something along those lines? A challenge week, an exchange. It might also take your mind off your friend and your loneliness.

Good luck, either way. -hugs-

Thanks, anon. *hugs back* This actually made me feel a lot better. I spend a lot of time shouting about the void about it on twitter etc. but I think I'll hit the tumblr tag and see if I can find people interested in a discussion.

We actually just had a holiday exchange wrap up (in which I received the only extant English fic of my OTP not written by me or my friend, lol) but that's a good idea too. I might try making one of those 30 day memes or something?
