I think this is a problem Supernatural had, actually. The show started out being about hunters who seemed sort of everyman, but somewhere around the fourth season it veered hard into chosen soldiers of God with a destiny that began at the beginning of creation. It got old really fast.

I can see what you're saying about Supernatural, I haven't minded the later seasons but it seems to go back and forth with the story. Sometimes they kind of remember what the show was supposed to be about, and then they go back to some other plot that doesn't relate.

I don't mind the "chose soldiers of God" thing but it's like after that... where do you go? I think they just went there too early. I mean I guess they couldn't know they'd be doing as many seasons as they are but once you establish demons/angels as the most powerful it's hard to do much when even they start getting boring (and personal gripe for me but I wish they had done more with pagan/myth gods and made them more powerful and not just random monsters of the week.)

DA

This! They took on DEATH and Lucifer himself, I mean... everything else after that just seemed meaningless in comparison.
