True but once they got later into the 90s and in the early 2000s they started trying to reflect the story in the style of animation. Hercules and Mulan are both examples of this.

I think 3d is partially to blame for why they aren't leaving their generic style lately. I know they wanted to do more of an oil painting style for Tangled but found it'd be too expensive and hard to do.
