Well a few years ago in my fandom, the BNF at the time was writing a multi-chaptered story which also happened to be a slow burn fic for when the OTP finally got together. Things were written one way all the way through the story, and then when the OTP did have sex, it was completely opposite to what the story was building up to. (Basically the person who was presuming to be the top was the bottom and vice versa.) So many people backed the fuck out of that, and it was such an epic failure. Eventually the BNF left the fandom and deleted all of their stories. It was kind of great.
