I would suggest using Google Translate to change the fics from Indonesian to English for an easy read, but if you're worried about stuff getting lost in translation and you're really that dedicated to learning something new, then more power to ya'!

Pretty much this.

With Google Translate, stuff will get lost in translation - that's pretty much a guarantee.

Not that that's a reason to not use it, mind. It can be hilarious.

Yeah, a coworker of mine had to run a word or phrase on swedish into hungarian, just to check if he got the right one. ( He immigrated from Hungary to Sweden ten years ago and while he's doing great, there are still bits that stumps him.)

Anyway, it went from something that means "apprehensive" to "arrest". Oops.

... and sadly, what usually gets lost are the juicy bits.

I'm interested in knowing what rarepair it is.

This was me with one of my OTPs and French a few years ago. I settled for using Google Translate.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-30 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Go for it!

Any excuse to learn a language is a good one.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-30 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
This!

(Anonymous) 2014-12-30 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Do it, man. Knowledge is fucking power.

Do it! Languages are fascinating.

I'm a little confused by the picture though since Indonesian is written with the Latin alphabet.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-30 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Go for it, op!

Bahasa Indonesia is pretty easy to learn. Especially compared to Javanese! I say go for it :-)

I mean, if it makes you feel any better this is true for like... 90% of anime fans– most shows that are hugely popular in fandom are geared toward children

(Anonymous) 2014-12-30 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
um obviously this was meant for 02 when dreamwidth doesn't wanna be a little shit

(Anonymous) 2014-12-30 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
close, but most of what's popular in fandom is aimed at manchildren

you can tell by the late night slots

with re: Google translate (or learning the language, for that matter) maybe see if there are any Indonesian writers who might want an English-speaking beta, in exchange for clearing up any really baffling manglings of the fic?

(Anonymous) 2014-12-31 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
tangent, but I thought they spoke Malay in Indonesia. Wikipedia tells me Indonesian is a dialect of Malay(?) How mutually comprehensible are they?
