Games can be expensive, but they can also be fairly cheap if you're willing to wait for sales rather than purchasing a game right when it's released. For example, I bought the Tomb Raider reboot for $4.00 (and most of time I pay $15.00 or less for games).

Also, while I can't speak for the OP, for me personally, playing through a story in a game feels very different from experiencing a story through other types of media. There's a more a visceral connection to the world and the characters, even when playing on Easy (although I tend to prefer harder settings myself, but that's my own preference).

In general, different types of media have different "feels" to them. Each uses different methods of storytelling, and so they can connect to us in different ways, even when telling what appears, on the surface, to be the same exact tale.

oh no, this wasn't recent. I got it maybe a month ago on a Daily Deal. It probably didn't go below $4 on the Winter Sale.
