Not to mention that even the most thorough LPs usually miss story details when they're given in the form of collectibles. Sometimes they even miss entire optional areas or side quests.

Don't get me wrong, I love LPs to the point that I watch them more than I watch television shows or movies, but they're not really a complete substitute for gameplay.
