Off topic? I actually do sort of ship Ichabod/Abbie (for them but also for the pretty, tbh) but my feeling that Ichabod/Katrina is a bit dullsville is unrelated. It's not a "Ichabod/Katrina is boring, SO Ichabod/Abbie" or a "Ichabod/Abbie's balls-awesome so screw Ichabod/Katrina."

I get the feeling that no matter what they did with Katrina, she'd be despised until she was no longer Ichabod's wife. I looked at the tumblr tag for it, and damn. Just a bunch of people complaining that "women hate Katrina!" and just ugh. Women hating female characters because they get in the way of their shipper fix. That's new and different.

Katrina can't win and neither can her actress. There was one post out there that linked to an interview where the actress said she liked her character and was rooting for her or some such thing. The fandom's response? She was such a horrible racist for liking her character!

I don't like the character either, but the fandom is just cray-cray.

I hate people who go after the actors. I remember before captainswan was a thing, the fangirls would spam Neil's actor's twitter and call him ugly and said he should die and his character was a rapist, etcetc. One reason why I despise shipping now.

I don't think these kids (I say kids, but some adults are probably acting like this too, unfortunately) actually understand the damage they can do to someone's reputation and career by saying that stuff.

I wish I could disagree. I haven't seen much of the vitriol myself but I know how bad shippers can get.

I have no beef with Katrina at all. I just think the writing doesn't use her character up to its full potential.

I like the idea of Katrina (of who she is, what she has done and has the potential to do), but more is told than shown and that makes her look just... bland.

I think they've already waffled a bit on her characterization (for instance, in season 1, she's living a simple life and then a couple episodes later, she's wearing some big ass emerald necklace) and it makes me feel like there's no point getting interested if even those details aren't hammered down.

Yeah, I noticed that, too. First she's a simple Quaker, next she's wearing a far more elaborate gown and engaged to a rich landowner. I don't think that would've been typical back then for rich landowners to marry someone with no money or family?
