I'd find that preferable to being a hipster.

Not really. Nothing wrong with either one tbh

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I hate hipster attitudes.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
What does hipster mean, to you? What are the defining qualities of a hipster?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
As far as I can tell, there are two definitions:

1. Somebody that likes something I don't and won't listen to me when I tell them they have bad taste.
2. Somebody who likes something I do, but they like it the wrong way.

What, exactly, is wrong with liking mainstream media?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-02 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I know some people are elitist snobs about entertainment, but I don't think you should care about their approval.

It's probably that you have pretty mainstream taste. It's not really a bad thing though. Or even unlikely, if you think about it.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-02 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a good thing! It means there's lots of stuff around that you enjoy.

Don't let the elitists mess up your day.

Unrleated: it really annoys me when people advertise shirts by taking a stock photo of a white/solid color t-shirt and then pasting words on it. It doesn't look anything like an actual shirt. The words do not magically make a perfect straight line while the shirt wrinkles under them. I think it's lazy and tacky (and leaves me doubts as to what the shirt actually looks like, so I'm far less likely to buy it).

(Anonymous) 2015-01-02 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the worst when it's a bunch of very attractive young ladies advertising for some nerdy t-shirt site. Like the one site that has that one redhead model all their shirts.

Not that there's anything intrinsically wrong about it, or implausible. It's just so blatantly pandering

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It's annoys me worse when you get the shirt and it looks exactly that way in real life. I don't understand why a good deal of fandom shirts look so paint cut and copy then pasted onto fabric. Like was there no way for them to blend the edges or fix it someway?

I think I did a better job as a kid with my puffy paint shirts I used to make.

Honestly, I just hate the "basic white girl" meme or whatever the hell it is. It just seems like another way to marginalize and ridicule women for being interested in something.

If something is mainstream, that means a lot of people like it, so I don't see why we're singling out certain people and mocking them for being interested in it.

^ This! There's nothing wrong with being mainstream.

But they're conformist sheep! And that's bad!

Yup. Liking a popular thing isn't a huge deal. Obviously lots of other folks do too. Taste varies so much, it's best to not fret too much about what other people think of it.

Yeah it bothers me too, liking popular things isn't bad. I don't like every popular thing under the sun but I don't make fun of people who do like popular thugs I don't.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
This doesn't ridicule women. It ridicules white chicks. Learn the difference.

The only women who count are women of color who are trans.

There's nothing inherently shitty about mainstream media. The people who claim that there is aren't actually looking for quality in the media they consume; they're looking for ways to feel special and superior.

No worries, OP. All that really matters is that you like it.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
People who use the term "basic" are just jelous that someone can enjoy what they want, don't care what some self appointed cool person thinks and don't have to try hard to be cool. I used to hate people who used "basic" feeling like it's an insult but now I just kinda pity them for not accepting themselves for who they are and just enjoying life.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Everybody likes some mainstream stuff, even if it's Charlie Brown or The Beatles. I think that most of the stuff they play on the radio is terrible, tbh, but they still play some songs I like. Like what you like and don't feel bad about it. Who cares what some jerkass thinks about it?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
...Makoto Naegi?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Or there's just a really large amount of assholes in the world trying to make you feel shitty about the things you like and you need to ignore their attitude and they need to shut up and mind their own business.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd be more able to react to this if I knew what your tastes were.
