. . . but if you spend X dollars of your income on a DVD, you won't be spending those X dollars at, say, a nice restaurant. From a Utilitarian perspective, you could just as easily argue that the restaurant owner suffers from you paying for the DVD as that the show's creators suffer from you spending the money at the restaurant instead. (The restaurant's owner would indisputably suffer from a dine-and-dash, but that's because you're using up the restaurant's food, not somehow duplicating it.)

Yeah, Utilitarians pretty much have to go socialist or anarchist.

But if you pirate the game that doesn't automatically mean you'll spend it somewhere else. And if you don't buy the game and go out to eat instead, at least you're paying someone for their services.

(I'm not actually that invested in this, just going along with the reasoning)
