Hell, that (being able to save) is one of the reasons I think I'm finally out of poverty.
But hey, I'm classist for thinking that wasting money when things are bad is a bad idea.
I'm glad my family didn't think like that, because I'm pretty sure we won't be in a better situation if that had been the case.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 03:09 am (UTC)(link)In order to get to a library, you need some sort of transportation. Depending on how far away it is, walking isn't always an option, and even public transportation can be too costly. In order to listen to the radio you need something that can pick up a radio signal--something you would have had to buy previously with money. Hulu/Crackle/Crunchyroll/any other website requires a personal computer. Have you ever tried to sit in the library and watch Hulu on a public computer? This is assuming that your library has funding for "new" computers, and isn't just a row of ancient CRT monitors and outdated copies of Windows.
"Free" entertainment of this variety doesn't exist.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-03 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)Not to mention that you take a risk bringing in book mites, bed bugs, and other pest when you bring stuff home. Which is going to set you back a whole lot more than getting some things for enjoyment.
