I do this sometimes--particularly if I'm very stressed or upset, I think it helps fill my mind with harmless, low-stakes happy that reduces the likelihood of stress-induced nightmares. And I was more or less taught to do this by a child psychologist, fwiw, when I literally was getting three hours of sleep per night due to nightmares/refusal to sleep due to fear of nightmares. (Not in terms of fandom, of course--although I think she did suggest favorite books as a possibility to build a mental sanctuary around.)
