I don't read many books at all anymore. When I was younger I could go through a book a day, and was constantly in the library checking out new ones, but now when the mood strikes me I just read tons of fanfic. It's more convenient.

(The funny thing is I usually end up reading fanfic on my cell phone, but if I try to read an ebook on my cell I get distracted. Maybe I'm just not reading the right books, but I know having a physical copy in my hand makes it much easier for me to finish. It's odd.)

I do think my taste in fanfic is better now, but sometimes I miss actual books.

This is me. The sad part? I am a librarian.

:(

I guess being around books all day might take some of the shine away? I can understand if that's part of it. Plus, you must see a lot of shit books. (And decent ones too, but still.)

I'm the same way. But I think it's probably more that you started out reading paper books (I assume?) but your reading habits with fanfic have been largely internet-based. So your eyes/your brain are accustomed to "fanfic = internet product".

I am completely making this up but eh.

Yea, I definitely read only paper books for a long, long time. It's only been in the last few years or so that I've given ebooks a try at all, and I'm not overtly fond of them. I think having such easy access to the internet (and notifications and the like) means I'll check my email/tumblr/twitter/texts/whatever more often, so I get away from the book and have trouble getting back into it because I'm constantly being reminded there are other things I should or could do. If I blocked the net while I was reading it would be easier, but I'd rather hold a book in my hand anyway because I don't find reading on a device as satisfying. (Also, I'm kind of bad with ebooks. Sometimes I fuck up and flip the pages without meaning to. If I'm reading on a computer it isn't quite as bad, but then my hand sometimes goes asleep, lol.)
