I find it a lot harder to tolerate "token" characters anymore. Like when they put in a character to have representation without giving them any actual CHARACTER traits. As though being Asian or being a woman is a personality.

I think it's because we're increasingly getting better and better characters and so my tolerance for the superficial ones has nose-dived.

YES. Or when the token characters have to come along with some BS stereotypical personality trait, i.e. the token black woman is also sassy. Because African American women do not have any other personality traits. In 2014?* Really?

*I am aware it's 2015 now, but I'm talking about stuff I saw in 2014. So, you know, context.

Semi related by I can't deal with the "White person comes in and saves the poc" trope anymore. It especially seems to happen a lot with asians and I just can't with it.

I guess I should be happy because those types of films HAVE poc but they still end up being huge stereotypes.

I actually feel happy just to see minorities present whether they have a personality or not. At least we've been remembered. :p Especially if it is someone from my ethnicity.
