Re: Things you can't watch/read/listen to anymore.

Definitely gay panic is on that list. Also jokes about rape or sexual assault. I mean, I don't think there was ever a point where I thought straight-up joking about rape was funny, but I think there were a lot more times when a movie or TV show could play off sexual harassment as humorous and light hearted, or rape as funny if the target was a man, that kind of thing. And that has changed massively for me.

Absolutely. I think shows/movies are doing it less because in general it's becoming unfunny. Or it'll be like The Office, where the sexism isn't funny but how stupid the sexist character is.

Oh god I hate rape jokes. Related, and since I was raised on Piers Anthony, I also just can not handle any sort of sexual relationship between an adult and a child being painted as okay or misunderstood or "just a fantasy." Incest either.

This is why I will not ever watch/read American Beauty, Cardcaptor Sakura, or anything involving vampires staying in high school for some stupid reason.

Especially adult men hitting on teenage girls. Ugh ugh UGH. *hugs self*

Yeah, I think gay rape jokes are one of those things for me. Like, it's used in bro or male comedy humor all the time. Male-male sexual harassment/gay jokes and the like. I did used to find it funny until I grew up and realized the double standard was pretty disgusting.

"Comedies". Pretty much anything that gets put into a comedy film, I find boring at best and outright off-putting at worst. Toilet humour, sexism, offensive stereotypes, trans characters as jokes, all the "Home Alone" style shenanigans, and so forth.
Thankfully there is some actually good stuff still out there.

It is 100% my headcanon that Captain America, today, feels about blackface the way we feel about trans jokes and gay panic jokes and so on. It was just a normal part of the comedy landscape when he was growing up, and young Steve Rogers probably laughed right along with the original Amos n' Andy show, listened to Eddie Cantor and Al Jolson right alongside Major Bowes' Amateur Hour and whatever else was playing, just the way we laughed at the end of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective in the early 90s, or the "hilarious" female-on-male rape scenes in half a dozen movies. Or like 80% of Revenge Of The Nerds back in the 80s.

And just like us, he looks back now and winces.

I'm honestly caught between agreeing with that, because it's a pretty great headcanon, or believing that Cap never found that funny, because Steve Rogers is better than us.

Also yeeesh Revenge of the Nerds. Glad I didn't see that until I was old enough to realize it was fucked up.
