Sexism, such as "hur hur women" jokes or women written just to be damsels. Took it for granted as a kid - now it bothers me much more.

I can't do the damsel in distress thing any more either. I used to be fine with them when I was a kid with movies like The Princess Bride and Star Wars. But these days with modern movies? Not any more. The only time I can tolerate it is if the damsel attempts to free herself. If she struggles and struggles but fails, I can see a guy helping her out. But for her to sit there like a lump on a log and do nothing but wait? Pass.

It mostly bothers me when those characters are just used as props for the male hero. :| It doesn't make me dislike them, just makes me think, they could have written her well and didn't...

Also, I wish we could see this trope reversed, but we pretty much never do, and I can already hear the "ugh who wants to watch a movie about the women wearing the pants and the man being totally castrated" bullshit...

This is one of many reasons I stopped defending Sailor Moon Crystal and dropped it. It'd be one thing if the girls were defeated before getting better, but they only got to be awesome in their intro episodes before being defeated or incapacitated ALL THE GODDAMN TIME.

Okay, not all the time, but they spent so much time on the ground or caught by an enemy/spell it felt like it.

(I'm still not sure if I should give the manga a try, people keep going back and forth on how faithful Crystal is to it.)
