Disabilities or mental disorders being used for comedy (like a blind person mistaking something for something else, or the whole premise of Monk). That kind of humor usually never made me laugh anyway, but that used to be the extent of my problems with it.

Yes.

Monk? I don't think they treat his OCD as a joke. I mean they do, but it also gets handled seriously from time to time.

Agreed. I think they found humour in a lot of situations, but didn't treat the OCD itself as a joke. It's probably a fine line for some people, but I appreciated that they did show a functioning character with OCD.

Oh, so I'm not alone in this opinion. I like Monk.

I have OCD, and I sort of liked Monk. He was able to make his OCD work for him.

Yes and he talked with a psychologist to work through it. Monk is cool that way. He also met two nice assistants because of his OCD.

I am extremely leery of that but it doesn't stop me from enjoying it as long as I can convince myself that it's respectful towards the disabled person and treats them as a human being and isn't done at their expense. But it's definitely a dialogue that I constantly have with myself when it comes up. Both in comedy and drama actually.
