(Anonymous) 2015-01-04 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)Another issue with the social justice posts and the overall interface is just how easy it is to disseminate misinformation, un/edited posts etc.
If I see one more lengthy and redundant rant about a post/issue/whatever that was resolved years ago -- and could've been easily found to be the case, seeing as nine times out of ten the original post doesn't even exist anymore -- spamming my dash, I'll start throwing things.

I was able to debunk it with FIVE SECONDS on fucking PubMed.
Like, I'm glad I got anons asking me about it, rather than just swallowing it wholesale, but JESUS CHRIST PEOPLE.
Especially since I suspect the only reason I got away with debunking it was because I had the correct assortment of identity labels and street cred.
And now you've got the whole Supernatural fake suicide hysteria and uuuuugh. Thank god I'm not in fandom, yo.

And to be fair, while it was SIMPLE to debunk it, it did require a little bit of ingenuity regarding database searches. I can't blame for Random Tumblr Kid to not want to risk getting charbroiled by stating something unpopular when they were already being painted as "the oppressor." It's a really easy Catch-22, because it implies that any skepticism you have is purely because of internalized bigotry, rather than... you know, reason.
