Stereotypical characters.
Cheap emotional/relationship drama.
Characters who are so wrapped up in each other they have no lives of their own.
Scenarios in which everyone's automatically OK with potentially skeevey relationships
The majority of yaoi manga or slash fanfic.

Why yes, these are all related!

Eh, I agree with all your points except that these are somehow specific or more common in yaoi manga or slash fanfic. It's equally common in the het I've read. 90% of both yaoi/slash and het isn't all that great and falls into these cliches.

I agree they aren't exclusive to yaoi, but for whatever reason they bother me more when I see them there (as opposed to in het). Dunno why.

That bothers me a bit, to be honest. It sounds like you're holding yaoi/slash to a totally different standard, and a much higher one at that, which...makes it really not fair for you to say that it's shitty and het is fine when they're both guilty of the same issues.

it sounds to me like it's just op's personal preference, but maybe i'm just giving them the benefit of the doubt.
