I don't mind OT3's but, like you OP, I hate when people try to ram it down fandom's throat as a "solution" to "shipping wars." Especially if it involves a canon couple because if I LIKED the canon couple in the first place, I wouldn't be shipping an alternative couple. Inserting a relationship I don't like into one I do like doesn't solve anything.

I think some people like them because they do like the canon couple, they just also really like this other pairing which happens to have some overlap.

Huh. It frequently does for me.

For example: Haven. I dislike Audrey/Nathan (the canon pairing), I'm pretty indifferent to Audrey/Duke, and I like Duke/Nathan. However, I absolutely love Audrey/Duke/Nathan; the OT3 actually works better for me than my favorite pairing within it.
