I assume, "The cheetahs are hard up, but I always say, cheetahs never prosper."

In newer releases, they added a new song, "Morning Report", during the scene where Mufasa gives Simba a pouncing lesson and they test it out on Zazu. In the original version, Zazu says "The cheetahs are hard up, but you know what I always say, cheetahs never prosper."

But don't take my word for it:

Given he laughed, though, I would assume he was making a pun and was aware of it. Given that Morning Report is entirely a giant punfest. Zazu likes puns.

Fair enough, but at the time, I was a kid (and a weird one at that), so even though I liked puns, I got offended on the cheetahs behalf. Cheetahs are my favorite animals, so I was annoyed that the only reference to them was something so mean-spirited (in my eyes).

Yeah, I think you were reaching for that offense...

DA-- yeah, but A KID. All kids have these weird little quirks.

I'm sure the cheetahs would have appreciated your loyalty, OP!

DA
All kids reach and misunderstand things, though.

Sorry for bothering but could you please explain the joke/pun in that line? Though I'm not a native English speaker I usually get puns. This one however... I just honestly don't get it?

Cheetah (the animal) sounds a lot like cheater (people who cheat), and we have a saying that "Cheaters never prosper", so he played on it as "Cheetahs never prosper".

Hope this helps!

Oh I see :D thanks for clearing that up!
