Aside from certain characters leaving the show, which sucked, I honestly don't understand why so many people hate season 3. I thought it was the best one

My reasons for hating it (other than people leaving):
-The guy who has spent the first two seasons whining how he doesn't want to be a werewolf, is now suddenly Teh Bestest Werewolf Evar, Lol, without having to work for the power at all.

-So far not mentioned lost relatives appear out of the woodwork for ridiculous reasons (I hate this trope with a passion).

-Villain overload. Why even bring Gerard back?

-Stupid romances. Allison & Isaac. So stabbing someone now constitutes as foreplay? Lydia & Danny & their murderous boyfriends.

+ a truckload of smaller complaints.

Those... are basically all my favourite things about season 3. I am beginning to understand why I am odds with the rest of fandom about this.

Characters introduced in season 2 were unceremoniously killed off or put on a bus, serious canon discontinuities with previous seasons, missing!relative who is then later put on a bus, zero character development where it matters (Scott especially), at least a plot hole an episode, no sense of timeline, etc.

The series itself never had brilliant writing, but the bad writing really stepped up in season 3. It may have been enjoyable to some, but it had way more problems than good points.
