I think I knew that one differently, where her brothers are turned into ravens. At the end, one of the shirts isn't ready yet, so her youngest brother is left with a wing for a hand.

Yeah, I think that's another variant - and yes, I do remember that the youngest brother wound up having a wing. (Which is just a fascinating detail to me for all sorts of reasons.)

Yes! One of my favorite illustrated books had a picture of just the brother with the remaining bird wing (in that version, a swan's wing that was also most of his arm). The image stuck with me because I didn't expect to actually see that specific story element, and it was drawn quite handsomely, rather than jokingly or even bizarrely.
