This one isn't really that big of a deal, but it kind of bugs me that a lot of people call themselves "trash" when they're fans of something now (ex: "homestuck trash" "stucky trash" etc). Like...why?

I can't stand that. Or calling the character trash. I see a lot of "hydra trash party".

Ugh, I hate both of those things. I see so much fic tagged with "hydra trash party" and I have no idea how it started. It also annoys me when people do things like jokingly call a character they like a piece of shit or say they hate their face when they're attracted to them. What is with this faux-aggression in fandom?

I like it for characters who are deliberately awful and that's why we love them (see: Hannibal), but for anything else it irks me.

I haven't seen that... I'd probably assume they were reacting to someone else calling them that.

This, and calling their favorite characters trash and yelling about how much they "hate" them. I still can't tell if they mean it like "I hate you because you're perfect and it's so upsetting that you're not real" or "I love you as a character but I think you're awful and hate you as a person" or if they're just being all-around ironic.

Oh man, same here. I can't even point out why I hate it either, but I do.

That's 90% of what's on the Wuko tag on tumblr and it's fucking annoying.

I don't hate it, but I sure as hell don't know where it came from. Nor do I use it because... idk it just kind of rubs me wrong I guess.

I'm not a fan of the term either. Be it referred to yourself or a character 'trash dad', 'alien trash'?? No thanks.

I'm also a bit tired of the word salty, mostly because it took me awhile to work out what was even meant by it...

I hate this so much. But what I really hate is that it's so prevalent that sometimes I find myself thinking of myself that way, even though I hate it. Idk, putting yourself down like that, even if it's meant to be positive, really bothers me.

I like it, personally. It tells me exactly who to avoid because they'll be more aggravation than they're worth.

Most people I know that use the term to describe themselves usually mean that (especially if it's a ship) they're essentially using it to say 'I know that this is wrong on so many levels, but I'm into it anyway'.

Except that more than half the time the ship is completely normal or popular.

It's probably because of the areas of fandom I spend time in that those are most of the examples I see. There are occasions of people using it for ships that they are overtly invested in, so I guess that is the more common use in general fandom.
