Hobbit and Alice

(Anonymous) 2015-01-08 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
If Alice (from SyFy) counts, that was the last thing I watched. I saw it on the Yuletide list of fandoms and just had a chance to watch it. I really liked it. I also liked Tin Man, and it was a lot like that. I like reimaginings of classic stories.

If we're talking straight movie, then it's the Hobbit. I've seen it twice in the theaters and I never go watch movies in the theaters. I think I might try to see it at least one more time if it's still in the theaters in two weeks. It has it's issues but it's the first Hobbit film that's made me want to see it again right away instead of waiting until it's available on DVD.

I need to rewatch Alice. It kind of fell apart at the end, but the characters were fun. And high-five from another person who liked Tin Man!

Tin Man was awesome!

I did know how Alice was going to end before I watched it, so maybe that helped. But the characters were interesting and I love new takes on old material. I thought Wonderland was neat.

Well, that's a lot of positive reviews for BotFA. Maybe I'll have to actually consider seeing it now.

My 2 cents is that DoS was the worst one. I am a book fan though and I knew the characters going in, so I'm not sure if the characters are enough to engage a movie-only fan. However, if you go in with low expectations, I think you might enjoy it. Pretty sure it's not going to blow you over though.

Well I mean I read the Hobbit when I was seven, so... this entire experience has been kind of underwhelming for me. Somehow so much less magical than I had it envisioned.

I think you'll find that's the experience of most Tolkien fans too. LOTR did such a good job, it's hard not to have high expectations for the Hobbit movies but they're really rather mediocre.
