Last movie you watched

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2015-01-08 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
I am about to watch What We Do In The Shadows, but last night I watched Willow Creek (I'm a huge fan of horror movies) and I have to say it was the worst fucking thing I have seen all year.

- terrible film quality because found footage/shaky cam is all the rage you know
- world's most unlikeable couple
- nothing happens until the last fifteen minutes of the film

I have to say I don't usually disagree with Rotten Tomatoes scores, but this was some utter garbage.

Battle of the Five Armies

don't even care, loved the shit out of it. I was a bit weepy in parts but on the whole had a cracking good time, laughed more than once and cheered a lot.

Snowpiercer with my sister. And well...I had seen it two times before from a site online. This was the first time I had seen it on Netflix. ALL THE STUFF THAT KOREAN FATHER AND DAUGHTER SAY IS TRANSLATED?? That changes so much. The copies I saw did not have translations and I just thought it was part of the movie.

I, Frankenstein. It was entirely as dumb as I expected it would be (although the CGI was shockingly terrible) but I thought it was still kind of fun. Eckhart using a gravelly, bale!batman-esque voice as Frankenstein's monster (he was generally referred to as "Adam" though) was kind of amusing too (made funnier by the fact that the movie ends with him standing on a rooftop, monologuing to himself like Batman). He phoned it in pretty hard.

There was also no in-movie explanation to explain why Adam was so hot instead of...idk, monster-like. He mentioned that he was put together from like eight different corpses but his skin tone and everything looked completely even

Four times so far. Will go at least once more. Don't care. Loved almost everything about it.

I really need to see Into the Woods as well, though.

Yes it's a kids movie, but the animation is incredible and very enjoyable even if you are an adult.

Last movie I saw in theatres was... damn, Guardians of the Galaxy?! I'll be seeing Into the Woods this weekend, and then hopefully Birdman.

Last movie I saw in general was showing my mom The Usual Suspects, when she had never seen it before. That's a cool thing to do.

Corpse Bride

[personal profile] feotakahari 2015-01-08 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
It felt kinda . . . dead. Forgettable hero, forgettable villain, forgettable music . . . Even the world design was kind of generic, though props for making the afterlife colorful while the living world was gray and dreary. The one character who really struck me was the titular bride, who lost all her dreams but still ended up happy.

Oh, how could you have gone with that choice? I so, so, SO want to see What We Do in the Shadows. It looks hilarious and creepy. My favorite combination. And it's not even playing in my country yet, let alone my town.

Hobbit and Alice

(Anonymous) 2015-01-08 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
If Alice (from SyFy) counts, that was the last thing I watched. I saw it on the Yuletide list of fandoms and just had a chance to watch it. I really liked it. I also liked Tin Man, and it was a lot like that. I like reimaginings of classic stories.

If we're talking straight movie, then it's the Hobbit. I've seen it twice in the theaters and I never go watch movies in the theaters. I think I might try to see it at least one more time if it's still in the theaters in two weeks. It has it's issues but it's the first Hobbit film that's made me want to see it again right away instead of waiting until it's available on DVD.

Freier Fall

(Anonymous) 2015-01-08 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
German film about a police officer falling for one of his colleagues while also having a pregnant girlfriend. It was really, really good. Great acting, beautiful cinematography. Although it was generally overall quite cliched in terms of gay films (drug use, clubbing), in general it didn't come across as a cliched film. It was treated like a regular love triangle story.

Of course, given the plot, it was also quite sad but yeah, overall would rate highly.

I've been watching Love Actually almost on repeat because it's my happy movie and I've been going through a rough time lately. I'd really like more nice romance films in the same vein, the only chick flicks I've watched and enjoyed otherwise are Definitely, Maybe and You Again.

Another one for the Hobbit BotFA. It was fun! I haven't read the books, so I can't really say what changed and what didn't, but it was really fun.

Oh and Piranha 3DD. It had David Hasslehoff and the Doc from Back to the Future, what else can I say?

Hahaha, Hobbit again. (This time An Unexpected Journey.) Planning on watching Desolation of Smaug again (I'm not overtly fond of DOS, but it does have its moments) then trying to see BOTFA Saturday. I've heard lots of mixed relations so I'm not sure what to think, but if nothing else it sounds like the Bagginshield is strong in this one so I'll probably be pleased about that then cry a lot.

And for a old movie: Critters, god I'd forgotten how much I love that stupid, stupid film.

Dirty Dancing.

What? It's my husband's favorite. And while I normally loathe his taste in movies (and he loathes mine) I have to admit, that film's growing on me. I mean, when's the last time any of us saw a movie where a woman had an abortion and this was portrayed as a sympathetic, undeniably CORRECT action?
