(Anonymous) 2015-01-08 12:27 am (UTC)(link)In the Battle of the Five Armies, what killed me was that the dwarves and Bilbo essentially set the dragon free on the town. The town was destroyed as a result of them waking Smaug. It's not all their fault, obviously, but I do think they bear part of the blame.
And when the townsfolk come and ask for help…they do nothing. None of the dwarves challenges Thorin. And even when they go out to fight, they only do so to help their family (other dwarves). They never seem to care that they left these people homeless and the movie still treats them like noble heroes.
How can you like them? I just don't get it...

Tolkien's characters are flawed. The movie clearly doesn't approve of Thorin not helping the Laketown people.

As for the rest, don't agree at all. I liked it. But I get that a lot of people didn't.
