while this makes sense to us, it clashes with what networks want which is steady ratings and cutting costs at every corner. they'd rather run a longstanding, popular series into the ground than end it "too soon" and face the risks/costs of starting something new.

AYRT - I think you're right, and I can even sort of understand that. We're thinking creatively, they're thinking financially. I think, personally, if they allowed more creativity (and diversity) it would help, but that's not how they look at it.
