The problem comes in when you like something that's problematic...and refuse to acknowledge that it is.

Now, what is problematic can be debated--and claiming that Rin is an abusive asshole (assuming that's who you mean by "shark boy") is widely derided as hogwash in fandom, so you're fine with liking him unapologetically.

However, just because you like someone with flaws/a ship that has some issues does not mean you are free from acknowledging those flaws.

Rin is not abusive, but he did act like a dick throughout most of S1 and displayed some ignorance/short-sightedness in S2. I love Rin, but that doesn't mean I'm going to turn a blind eye to the bad things he's done. (and of course Rin isn't the only one; they've all done things that we can point out as not that character's finest moment)

Same goes with ships. There's a ship in one of my fandoms that starts off with rape (and many subsequent encounters are ~forced seduction~ which is just pretty words to describe rape). But many people seem to love it for some god-forsaken reason (mostly because in the anime, the rape scene is toned down to a chaste kiss, and the original canon are text-only novels that most people haven't read because Japanese). If you want to like that ship? I don't understand why, but whatever, fine. But you damn well better acknowledge that there are multiple instances of violent rape that result in substantial pain and confusion on the part of the victim with no apology on the part of the rapist :|

People like you seem to think everyone has to acknowledge an issue in something and even apologize for liking that something every time that something is mentioned.

Except having to acknowledge everything ALL THE DAMN TIME is annoying.
I want to have fun, not to have the fandom police screaming at me all the time for not acting in the "right way" according to them.

Oh well, I'm so sorry that perpetuating and refusing to acknowledge issues that affect real people in harmful ways is so annoying to you. That must be unbearable, how do you get by with so much suffering in your life?

How is saying "I like [insert character]" perpetuating and refusing to acknowledge issues that affect real people in harmful ways?

Stop overreacting and let other people have fun even if you don't approve it.

I can't wait for the day when people stop linking to that article. Everyone has seen it. Assuming anyone you're linking to it has never seen it before is insulting and condescending at this point.

So are you asking people to do stuff like, "I love murder mysteries, but murder is bad and no shape or form support actual murder," when they talk about it?

If so fucking lol.

So, instead of talking about how I enjoy or do not enjoy any particular part of fandom immediately upon entering a discussion about said fandom...

...I must immediately list all the problems about said fandom so that the Thought Police won't drag me away.

I'm sure all the more experienced fans will be sick of the dead horse flogging, and the newer fans will be driven away because of an honest fear of flame wars. And all because some people can't or won't understand that there is a healthy and even commonplace separation between fact and fiction. I don't have to be constantly lectured about how evil the bad guys are in any given story. I don't have to be told that anti heroes are a bad moral example. I'm not two years old. I'm also not stupid enough to try flying out a window because that's a common superpower in fiction. In short, I don't have to cater to your inability to understand that a love of dark themes in fiction doesn't automatically correlate with actual IMMORAL BEHAVIOR.
