NAYRT -- I like both versions for different reasons.

I guess I never really saw the dwarves as dickwads, so much as having different priorities that made sense to them culturally, but not to Bilbo. Honestly, Gandalf annoyed me more. It sometimes seemed like he was just getting his kicks by fucking with Bilbo. I haven't read the Hobbit in ages though, so who knows what I'd think about it all now.

Oh, man. Gandalf. *shakes head*

In the trilogy, he's mysterious but makes sense. In The Hobbit, he's an utter cypher and his decision to involve Bilbo is inexplicable. It's a caprice, a whim.
