Every time I hear "all men are X" -- especially when "X" is some form of abuser/rapist/etc. from people that claim to be feminists -- all I can think of is how utterly victim blamey that sounds.

Like, if all men are rapist/abusers, then it's the woman's fault for staying with them, she should have known better, after all, that's how all men are, isn't it? Why was she around those men, when she should know all men are so bad?

Also, I really hope that this trend I've been seeing of "ironic misandry feminism" goes away/doesn't get to be too mainstream, because if it does, I will not keep calling myself a feminist.

I find nothing feminist about dehumanizing men, and insulting them in the name of feminism, while simultaneously claiming that that's what the patriarchy does, and feminism will help.

Eh. I don't know, I don't mind it all that much. It is probably too much if it is going to the point of saying that all men are abusers but I don't really have a problem with feminists attacking men qua men, even if I don't agree at all. Turnabout is fair play after all.

No. Do you really think all men ever have attacked and hurt women? Do you REALLY think that?

No, I know for a fact that I haven't done so, thus disproving the assertion as a whole. But I think I can understand where the impulse comes from and thus it's hard for me to vilify those who do it.

The cure for sexism has never been more sexism. People who complain about bad behavior from others do not get to then start engaging in that same bad behavior all over the place and act like it isn't hypocritical.

I think the vast majority of men perpetuate harmful societal norms towards women. Intentionally or no.

ugh you're disgusting. men are as much victims of history and status quo as women are. do you think men just pop out of the womb going 'men are so much better than women and i want to degrade and rape them to keep them in their place' or something? they're conditioned, same as women, and most men want gender equality as much as women do. there are some assholes out there, but there are a lot of asshole women as well.

I suppose what I'm saying is less that I agree with the position, and more than I can see how someone would be extremely radical about these issues and come to that point, and understand it to some extent. I don't think it's accurate because as you say we're all products of our circumstances and our culture.

"Turnabout is fair play" is one of the most bullshit catch phrases I have ever heard.

I feel incredibly privileged in that I can call myself genderqueer. If someone insults men, I don't count, since I'm not a man. But a lot of people who were born with dicks don't have that privilege. I feel like I'd be abandoning them if I didn't stand up to misandrists.

(Then again, people DO stand up to misandrists. Misogynists get praise and popularity on sites like Know Your Meme, and it's the folks who speak out against them who get downvoted until their posts are hidden.)

Tangent: I don't know why it's supposed to be ~soooooo obvious that #notallmen do X when someone literally says, "Men do X." #notallmen was appropriate when it was about statements that weren't so direct, like "When men do X..." or "Men who do X..." Those allow men who don't do X to infer that these statements do not apply to them, and so it's pointless to supply a "Not all men" clause. But if someone just says "Men do X," the word "all" is pretty much implied. But you're still not allowed to call that out because you'll be mocked with "#notallmen" and "Think of the menz!" It's a trap that allows people to make blanket statements that they can then back up and pretend it was OBVIOUS they didn't mean ALL men.

Yeah, I kind of feel like, if it isn't cool to say "All women do x," because that's making a sweeping generalization, then it shouldn't be cool to say "All men do x" either because that is exactly as sweeping a generalization as "all women."

I don't see a whole lot of this, and honestly, I hope I never do. We don't need that shit.
