(Anonymous) 2015-01-10 01:30 am (UTC)(link)I'll respect any creator's right to present their characters in whatever relationship they choose, and also mine to decide how believable that is (and in turn, my right to crank out shittons of fanfic to compensate). I can accept that canon exists without the need to shriek "I'm more right than the author!" because that's a) disrespectful and b) obviously wrong.
How successful a writer is at conveying a relationship doesn't negate it's factual existence. You're welcome to AU, Fix-It and/or Epilogue the crap out of it, but it veers into disrespect when you're claiming you know better than the author what should happen to their creations. No you don't, you disagree with it, which is valid, but doesn't trump the original creator.
