From a western perspective, men tend to be favored in environments where men are generally in positions of power. In places where women are in power you don't necessarily see as much of this. That isn't to say that within a company controlled by a woman who is a CEO, that doesn't necessarily mean that gender power imbalances don't exist at all, but it may also be dependent upon the industry itself.
In relationships it can vary from person to person completely.
