(Anonymous) 2015-01-10 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)See, I could even accept it as a motivation if JKR didn't try to play it off as tragic and romantic and instead had kept Snape as the bitter, petty man that he WAS.
Because, yes, some people never get over first loves. But Snape's behavior is entirely unsympathetic to me and I found the attempts at characterizing him as a "romantic hero" in the last books to be laughable. Just my opinion, though.
