Re: slight TMI warning ahead

I don't mind the taste nearly as much as I mind not being able to breathe. Throwing up is basically a rapid-fire series of violent "outs" through the throat, with no time for any "ins" in between. By the end of it I feel like my lungs are completely deflated. I haven't thrown up in years, but I'll never forget that feeling.

For me, my gag reflex is pretty easy to trigger so it's generally a smooth glide up. It probably helps that I'm usually throwing up liquid (since the ice cream melts) and it comes up really easily.

My nose tends to run something fierce though.

Wow, this thread is triggery.

Sorry…

In my defense, though, I figured the first post would have made it pretty clear what it's about. And it's collapsed so...

Oh, don't apologize! My fault for reading. Though I do hope you can get to a point where you don't feel like doing this any more. :) /butts out

DO NOT WANT. I'm having horrible, horrible memories of that one time I was locked in a house with my entire family and we all had food poisoning and couldn't move of the couch.

Why would you do that to yourself?

Because it doesn't feel nearly as bad for me as it does for you I guess?

I literally just stick my finger down my throat and a waterfall of melted ice cream comes back up. (Sorry for the mental image but this is a TMI thread). Repeat a few times until I stop throwing up ice cream then flush, wash my hands, rinse my mouth with water and go.

I mean, the worst thing is runny nose but it's not that bad. I just blow it and keep going.

I don't feel like I'm suffocating or anything.

But... well, okay, I guess that's the whole point of the thread... but are you sure there aren't any health effects from throwing up that often?

I'm sure there are.

Stripping the enamel from my teeth.

Doesn't do my esophagus any favors to constantly have the acid crawl up.

Messes with electrolyte balance in the long term.

But this was the Danger Zone thread so I thought I might as well post as it's definitely inadvisable from a health perspective.

DA

I never was bulimic (I'm one of the PTSDers in the thread going "Why am I reading this? This is just as unpleasant as it was when I was sick as a kid.") but all these things, yep, as well as constant sinusitis that has continued to plague me throughout my life.

Best wishes, OP, I hope you can get over this.

I don't enjoy puking because it comes out both my mouth AND my nose. That is the worst sensation, having little chunks of food in your nasal passages...and trying to blow your nose to get them out. It burns, most of the time. It is why I do my best to not throw up...but it still happens to me every once in a while.

So I don't really understand people who do it on purpose. *ew*

That will happen if you're not hydrated enough. For something like ice cream it almost never occurs since it's so liquid. But I will often drink water if I've put solid food down that I want to bring back up. The water acts as a medium and everything will go out through my mouth. My nose will still run, but no food gets up my nose.

I know it's unhealthy. I do it because I overeat when I'm stressed and then I get stressed bout the weight I will put on. So I purge. It's not difficult or painful enough for me to get me to stop. I don't know if that's a good thing though.

It's not a good thing - but I think you know that.

I don't purge but I do stress-eat. It's a bad habit and I need to get out of it. (Though I haven't been really stressed in a while, so it's not as relevant right now.) I hope you can get some help for both the stress-eating and the purging. I hate to think of what you're doing to your esophagus - that can lead to cancer, too...

Best of luck.

o_O I haaate throwing up, haven't done it in a long time (probably last time I was sick which was at least three years ago, I think) but I have never had it come up my nose and that sounds really, really unfun.

DA yeeeeeeepppppp that's the only thing that really freaked me out re: vomiting

...so this is why I immediately pop Gravol as soon as I start to feel even the slightest bit queasy...which is my "danger zone" thing.
