(Anonymous) 2015-01-11 12:42 am (UTC)(link)You're right. I don't really regret the defending since I think that people went way over the line when making fun of him years ago. I was just genuinely surprised that he turned out to be such an asshole, even though I probably shouldn't be (a lot child pop stars or actors seem not to turn out very well or go through some really rough patches after all)

(Anonymous) 2015-01-11 12:50 am (UTC)(link)It wouldn't surprise me if his dad had something to do with it because he's a HUGE asshole. He's one of those dead beats who completely checked out of their kid's life until they got successful and then suddenly he realized how important fatherhood was. There were a lot of rumors that his mom had to stop Bieber from giving his dad too much money and I don't really doubt it.
Re: Wrong
I feel really sorry for him now, though, because I think it is extremely difficult to handle celebrity as an adult much less as a child. I think some of the important things that most children learn when they're growing up is that their actions have consequences, eating all the cookies in the jar is bad for you, and that you can't always get what you want. When your fame insulates you from consequences and you can afford not just the jar of cookies but the whole damn factory, it skews your whole outlook.
Obviously, I am not condoning his behavior, but I think you've got to have super dedicated parents to prevent a child star from going down a dark path, and looking at the other commments in this thread, he doesn't appear to have had that. :(
Re: Wrong
(Anonymous) 2015-01-11 04:27 am (UTC)(link)That's a good point. I do feel sorry for him because it seems like he wasn't given the right tools to handle his sudden and immense popularity/hatedom (though, like you said, it doesn't really excuse his current behavior). I really hope he eventually stops acting like such a douchecanoe. He doesn't exactly have a lot of goodwill left to burn
And yeah, it seems like he didn't really have parents who were quite equipped to help him manage everything. His mother seems like a decent woman (especially considering her frankly horrific childhood) but I don't think she was prepared for how famous/infamous her son would become. His dad is just a straight up asshole though. Among other things, he was in the news in early December for allegedly throwing his dog off of a balcony (the dog is alive thank goodness, but she did have injuries) and before that he was arrested and charged with breaking a teenage girl's jaw. He basically walked into his son's life for the first time since he was born once he started making money and he's been mooching off of him and encouraging terrible behavior ever since. The worst part is that Bieber, by all accounts, either isn't aware or refuses to acknowledge how toxic his father is and even refers to him as his "superhero." It's actually really, really sad.
