I think it's a useful word but I understand that feeling. Echoing what everyone else has said, why not just label what's "problematic" about it exactly?

Because you're describing a large group of things (say, a subgenre of fiction) that has multiple -ism issues?

Or even a single TV series that has multiple issues that would be a mouthful to codify entirely when all you're trying to say is, "You should probably be open to examining some issues X has."
