Interrupted by a phone call

(Anonymous) 2015-01-11 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
When a salesperson/cashier/help desk person answers the phone while dealing with me when there is someone else there who can take the call. I mean, I get that potential sales are important and that if phones don't get answered, you can lose business, but dealing with the sale or question right in front of you, also pretty important.

As someone who puts their cellphone away when talking to salesperson/cashier/help desk person, it is really annoying. But, if they are the only person in the store, I can understand.

As someone who just finished a stint in foodservice - I agree. The customer in front of you should ALWAYS take priority. Set up a voice mail and answer the phone if you're not already helping someone.

It's also good business - you don't want to lose the sale in front of you that's almost guaranteed to happen on the chance that you might gain one by picking up the phone.
