Doxxing in BioWare/Dragon Age Fandom?

(Anonymous) 2015-01-11 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I heard on Tumblr from a couple people I know that the BioWare fandom (likely the Dragon Age section) has been doxxing people for god knows what reasons. I had joked with a friend a while back that given how hair trigger, thin-skinned the Dragon Age fandom is, it wouldn't be long before they started doxxing people for stupid reasons. And now here we are.

For any FSers involved in said fandoms, is this true? Because if it is, I'm staying the fuck away from it for the rest of my life.

You're not seriously suggesting that a company has a policy of releasing the personal information of their users?

Try listening to common sense instead of "tumblr friends" now and again.

?

They said "Bioware fandom" not Bioware.

Ironic, considering you seem to be lacking reading comprehension yourself.

Well, I'd think you could certainly participate in fandom without giving out personal information, couldn't you?

I need to know more.

Specifically, what are these reasons? What did these people do to get doxxed?

Stop victim blaming.

No really, note the lack of awesomeface. You are implying there might be a good reason.

I have no clue but I only browse the tags and reblog shit... Don't create content or interact with other people, so I'm probably missing the 'true' Dragon Age fandom experience.

That's scary, though. I hope it isn't true.

The only thing I've actively seen is this Lady Insanity post, since I happen to follow her:

I assume the doxxing may be coming from the same thing (the Iron Bull fiasco, iirc).

The Iron Bull fiasco? The whole 'is Iron Bull a rapist' thing? Because that's fucking ridiculous. Ugh, wth fandom, let people enjoy their silly BioWare romance.

Yeah, I can't see it at all (at best the Dorian banter is kind of like "OH, BULL," but it clearly goes somewhere after), but I went back and looked at the posts before that to make sure. I thought she commented on the weirdness in a fairly well-worded way, but... well.

But this is also why I just reblog pretty art and follow one or two fandom people outside of commenting here. Even if my comments are always late. Ahem.

Better late than never!

But I agree, I don't really chat with people over on tumblr and just reblog stuff. I've always been kind of displeased about it because I would like to interact with the fandom more, but from what I've heard from f!s apparently it's better this way.

My experiences with Bioware fandom on and off tumblr means this comes as no surprise.
