I'm 23, and Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys were at their peak popularity right around the time I was old enough to start caring about music.

+1 and if you didn't care about pop music then, chances are you probably knew someone (especially older siblings) who did.

I was seven. In fact I was a bit slow socially -- my classmates were into popular music before I was. Might be a thing that varies between communities.
