UGH yes, I hated that. Why even link to a public comm then? I also hated the "this will only be available for one day before it gets locked" posts. Well, I'm sorry, but I don't check the community every day. Just keep it to your friends list.

I honestly don't know, but now that they mention it I remember seeing people do it fairly often. They might just have done it as a ploy to draw in more readers in the hopes that people would be more likely to read something that was only widely available for a short period. A douchey strategy to be sure, but possibly somewhat effective

In my experience it was to get more people friending your journal thus boosting your numbers.

This happened in exactly ONE comm I belonged to. The moderator came in and said, sorry we don't allow posts pointing to fics on locked journals. Unlock it or remove your post. And that was that.
