NGL, I loved the ending of the film so much and the only thing I would change is the way in which the characters died (Fili would've died protecting Kili, Kili would've cried over his dead brother before charging back into battle and dying, Thorin wouldn't have stared at Azog for five minutes after he fell under the ice... Okay, we also would've gotten a funeral and a longer goodbye with the dwarves and Bilbo), not that they actually died. I'm a masochist because it hurts me so, but tragic Bilbo/Thorin delights me in some sick way. That the movie made their relationship even easier to ship (IDEK what TPTB were thinking with a few of these scenes because they didn't seem platonic at all) pleases me so much.

In my experience it's much easier to find AU fic where everyone lives than it is to find canon compliant fic! I do love happy AU's, but I want the terrible angst too, guys.

Ugh man, like I loved the film but Fili was kind of tossed aside and that annoyed me a little I wont lie. Like I didn't need anyone breaking down over him during the fight, and I liked that Kili initially went off for revenge against the orcs, but I would have liked to have someone mourn over him like Thorin got Bilbo and Kili got Tauriel.(Honestly I had hoped that Dwalin would go over to him, or be carrying his body over to Thorin's at the end of that whole bit, but that was not to be).

Oh yeah I get you, even though what happened is awful and sad I wouldn't have changed it either. I'm just in a strange place where I'm happily reading everyone lives AU's and canon-compliant angsty fic, like these aren't character deaths that I reject happening.

(They made Thorin/Bilbo so easy to ship, so ridiculously easy).

Yea, I didn't appreciate how Fili was ignored. Like, Kili had that moment standing up to Thorin, and they did the forehead-touch thing, and poor Fili was left standing in the background. Kili got a (totally unnecessary, though I do like Tauriel) love interest and Fili got...basically nothing, lmao. Poor Fili, ugh. I would've liked Dwalin rushing to his side or carrying his body over to Thorin's too. Maybe the extended edition will include a funeral, and hopefully there will be at least one or two Fili scenes.

Sometimes it is nice to read happy AU fic! I def enjoy reading about Erebor being rebuilt and Thorin adjusting to being King, and seeing what the rest of the company get up to and how Bilbo fits into everything. There's some damn good fic in this fandom.

(That acorn scene...I'm so confused as to how we were meant to view that scene. Thorin's adoring smile went on far too long for it to look like anything other than a love scene. Maybe I'm wearing slash goggles...)

Considering that Fili was one of the dwarves that dies and was Thorin's heir I was hoping that he'd get more scenes and attention than he did, maybe trying to talk to Thorin when he's taken by the sickness, maybe talking to Bilbo and them worrying over Thorin. Something yanno? (Ha, man I love Tauriel a lot, her romance plot though? Not so much). I do know that the extended edition has the funeral in it, so here's hoping we might get a bit more Fili too.

You need a break from the soul-crushing sadness sometimes.

(The acorn scene, the freaking camera angle when Bilbo is talking to a dying Thorin(for a split second I legit thought Bilbo was going to kiss him at that point). There was so much to work with for Thorin/Bilbo in BoFA, it was unreal).

If the film had cut Kili and Tauriel's romance and given Fili a bit more screentime that would've been lovely. (I don't even dislike Kili/Tauriel, it just felt kind of shoehorned in. I actually dig the idea, but the execution was clumsy. Plus, it just didn't need to be there.) Fili and Kili should've had at least one nice scene together, too. Maybe Fili should've approached Thorin with Dwalin? I love that scene as is, but wouldn't have protested Fili (And Kili, for that matter) being included. He should've had something to say to his Uncle. (Where did you hear that about the funeral? The extended edition can't come out soon enough!)

(That and cutting between Kili and Tauriel and Bilbo and Thorin. Their last lines together felt very 'our unspoken love will now never be realized, go on without me'. Plus, dat Balin and Bilbo scene! β€œHe was never that to me, he was..." Poor Bilbo.)

Man the idea of Tauriel/Kili is cute as hell(some of the fanart for it I've seen is adorable) but like you it felt so clumsily done to me, which is a shame because I didn't mind it in DoS. And if we're talking about things that should be cut out, Alfrid, he got way more screen-time than he should have. Way too much. I'd have liked Fili to have stood up to Thorin with Kili tbh, I don't get why he didn't really, though Fili and Kili talking with Dwalin could have been good too.(I felt so sorry for Dwalin there man, so sorry :()

(Ugh sorry I said 'know' should have said there's speculation that the funeral will be in the EE, there's stills from it online(there's a few on tumblr and one here: https://atolkienistperspective.wordpress.com/2014/12/16/the-battle-of-the-five-armies-extended-edition-speculation/) and it has been shot so it should be put into the EE, they'd be silly not to).

(It's how he faltered so badly over finishing that sentence and Balin's knowing smile, like really guys make it easy to ship this why don't you :|).

Alfrid was fucking horrible. I would've been fine with Alfrid dying with The Master... he was just so annoying. (I mean, I get that was the point, but he took up precious screentime.) And agreed on Dwalin. While I want more Fili and Kili, I am glad that Dwalin got one gorgeous scene. (It was actually one of my favorites in the film! There wasn't much time to explore Thorin and Dwalin's friendship, but I still felt there was a lot of history there nonetheless and I'm glad Dwalin got to call him out on his shit.)

Ooo, thanks for this! I hadn't seen it. I imagine they'll include the funeral then, since it's already shot and everything. Can't wait!)

(Yes! Balin knows what's up. Then the scene back at Bag End with the contract... They really hammered the point home. Poor Bilbo. Poor everyone, really.)
