People who read slash and nothing else. I'll assume you don't really care about the female characters despite protests otherwise.

That's fucking stupid. It's like saying that I hate men because I read femslash over anything else. No; it's just that I'm not attracted to men and I don't want to read about them cuddling with each other.

DA - Your comment only makes sense to me if everything that's not femslash is slash. But that's not the case, so...

Wait, what? It makes perfect sense. It sounds like they don't like to read any shipfic that involves men in the pairing. So that rules out slash and het.

Nah. I read slash and gen. Gen for characters and slash because I like hot guys. And two hot guys > one hot guy.

So what? People gonna like what porn they like. For the record, I don't just read slash (or just femslash) but I tend to stay away from het fic. It's rare enough to find stuff I like in the fic I do read, let alone having to dig through mountains of stereotypical romance crap just to find a few decent femdom fics or fics portraying women as something other than objects to be wooed or hideous Sues.

Sometimes it's a case of just not wanting to bother.

And I think people who refuse to read slash are homophobic. Oh, no, wait, I don't. I figure it's genre they don't enjoy...and no one should have to read anything they don't enjoy. It doesn't make them any more homophobic than reading only slash makes me not care for female characters.

But yeah, I've been judged for worse things by better people. *shrug*

Some people (not everyone; people do fandom in different ways) read fic, or at least shippy fic, only for the porn. I'm not sure why their preference of genital combinations in porn says anything about their attitudes towards female characters. How they consume porn =/= how they consume fic or media that has anything to do with actual character development.

Well, I read slash fanfic because it satisfies a craving for in-depth homosexual romances that are hard to find in most media. When I want hetero romance, I tend to read romance novels, because that satisfies my het cravings better than fic does.

and you know? I really don't care about the female characters. I admit it. I don't.

But me not liking the female characters in my chosen fandoms and me reading slash actually don't correlate at all. I read slash for the super-hot man-on-man porn that canon isn't going to give me.

now, if you're talking about the kind of people who are actively in 13 different fandoms but they all have the eerie commonality of being slash-heavy for a certain subset of strangely similar characters, and those people are only into the slash side of those fandoms? yeah I'd judge too. mostly I'd judge their lack of taste, though, not their tendency to be afraid of the womenfolk.

Meh. I read fic mostly for the romance. I read other books for the characters.

why is shipping the only way someone can "care" about a character? i only read slash cause I'm gay and I get enough str8 people on tv, I'm not exactly in need of more. i also have plenty of favorite female characters, I just don't care to read about them in the context of a relationship.

... So what do you do about people who read only slash in a fandom that has an almost exclusively male cast? Does you brain melt?

I'm GAY. And I generally only read fanfic for the porn or fluff.

Fandom != my entire media consumption. My taste in fanfic != my taste in media.

This is just WEIRD.

(I'm not offended, just kind of startled. It's like judging my taste in cinema PURELY on my taste in porn!)
